The legend of Jack O’Lantern

Halloween is upon us and once again we’re in for a long night of ghostly mischief, misdeeds and plenty of sugar filled sweets.

The Halloween holiday has been celebrated for more than 2000 years. It was an important annual festival for the ancient Celts and was originally known as Samhain which means end of summer. It was a time for celebration of the harvest and for honoring the dead.

The Celts believed that all laws of the natural world were suspended at this time, allowing spirits to roam the earth and intermingle with the living. They built raging fires and produced offerings for those restless spirits.

The Tale of Stingy Jack

The word Halloween is actually a corruption of All Hallows Day. Halloween arrived in America with early Irish and Scottish immigrants. It is from their folklore that we learned our pumpkin carving tradition.

Jack O’Lantern walks among us …tonight!

The legend of the Jack O’Lantern originates in Irish folklore of the 18th century with the scary tale of Stingy Jack.

We’re proud to present our own exclusive retelling of this famous tale. So gather the family and turn out the lights cause we’ve prepared a special video presentation just for you.

Turn up the computer speakers and hang on to a loved one. The story begins when you hit the play button on the video screen on the right. (or if you prefer you can catch Stingy Jack on You Tube as well.)

JackOLantern 150x150 The legend of Jack OLanternDon’t wait another minute to watch because like the ghosts and goblins of All Hallows Eve, the tale of Stingy Jack will only be up for the holiday weekend.

Be sure and tell your friends and family where they can learn about the legend of Jack O’Lantern.

And be sure to leave us your comments. We love to share all the ghosty stories! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
