Embracing Easter tradition

It’s all pink and green around here these days. We’re busy cleaning, polishing and shining everything in the house. The family will descend shortly after Easter services all dressed in their finest pastels and crispy cottons. We’ve prepared Easter gift baskets in every shape and size.

Easter CandyIt’s a good thing to prepare for a party. It gives ample reason to clean out the late winter clutter. And I must admit we have certainly acquired plenty of that. It’s a tedious but necessary process.

The kids Easter baskets are ready and the Easter egg coloring is complete. We have just a few remaining outdoor preparations for that all-important Easter tradition… The Easter Egg Hunt.

Make way for the Easter customs

I confess that my favorite part of the Easter holiday is the food. We’ll begin with one of my favorite Easter cocktails, the Mimosa. Then comes the fancy egg-filled casseroles, honey glazed hams and sugar coated coffee cakes. Easter is one of the few holidays where breakfast, lunch and dinner all seem to run together into one decadent feast.

And let’s not forget the candy. I believe more candy passes my lips on Easter than all other holidays combined. And that includes Halloween! My favorite is the speckled egg. You know, the candy coated malted milk balls. There’s just no good way to stop eating them. And there seems to be a dish of them around every corner.

I’m also a fan of Hersey’s kisses, Cadbury eggs, Peeps, chocolate bunnies (solid only, please) and peanut butter cups. Oops… Scratch that. My son is allergic to peanuts. But I just might have to sneak one or two while he’s out hunting for eggs. Shhhh!

After the gift baskets and Easter party games

I may joke and poke fun at family parties and holiday gatherings but after everything is said, done …and eaten, I do enjoy spending the day with family and friends. Once the food consumption slows and everyone begins to settle into comfy chairs, it’s a perfect time to catch up on kids, work and social events.

Later in the day, once the Easter bunny baskets have emptied and the Easter stories have subsided, we all begin wondering how we’re going to lose the extra pounds we’ve managed to pack on. There is nothing like a food-filled holiday to conjure up a healthy dose of “I ate too much” guilt.

We’ll if you’re really looking for a diet system that works on your own terms. By that I mean, a diet where you don’t have to give up any of the foods you love. Check out the Every Other Day Diet. It works for us.

And as always, if you’re feeling the need to give, browse through the select group of creative candle holder pics shown at right. There’s something there for everybody. The lazy-dad’s hammock would make a great Fathers Day gift (June 20). It’s an important holiday that will be here before you know it.
