A taste of Thanksgiving history

Thanksgiving day is close at hand and there is little doubt we’ll all be celebrating our own Thanksgiving harvest festival traditions. We’ll keep ourselves otherwise occupied with a wide assortment of modern American traditions like snacking on football, munching through the Macy’s Day Parade and gorging ourselves on turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pies!

But many of us have forgotten the difficult first winter the Plymouth Colony pilgrims endured in 1621. The arduous two-month Atlantic voyage on the Mayflower combined with the brutally cold winter would ultimately claim the lives of almost half of the original pilgrims by springtime.

First Thanksgiving 300x186 A taste of Thanksgiving historyThis year we’re paying homage to the original pilgrims story with our very own version of The First Thanksgiving.

Gather the children and settle in for this five minute musical story of kings, pilgrims and wild indians. Turn up the sound so the whole family can enjoy.

Hi everybody, it is Thanksgiving Day! I’m happy with my extra day off, and I am planning to make something fun that’ll probably involve a bike ride and seeing something new in Columbia I haven’t seen yet.
You write new post at Thanksgiving?
